Registered Agents Inc. Inside, the shady firm pushing the boundaries of business secrecy

Since 2008, Dan Keane has grown his business from a small company serving clients in the Pacific Northwest to a major national player in the corporate construction industry. The company and its competitors offer the ability to incorporate a business in a state of the customer’s choice and receive mail and legal notices.

Keane started the company after running a tree trimming and landscaping business. Former employees said Keane worked tirelessly to build the business, often sending emails at all hours of the night.

“Dan put in a lot of effort, he worked tirelessly,” says Matt McKenzie, who worked as a legal compliance specialist for more than 11 years and was one of the company’s early employees.

When the company was a small start, Keane regularly listed his name on the formation documents of the company and its various subsidiaries in states across the US. “It wasn’t until a few years later that he wanted to completely stop using fake names and remove his name from all corporate paperwork for Registered Agent Inc.,” McKenzie says.

Keane has been described by former employees as a driven but eccentric businessman prone to micromanagement and sudden changes in mood. Former employees say Keane dresses casually, wearing shorts and flannel shirts, and is an avid skier and outdoorsman.

According to six former employees, Keane often took a passive aggressive stance with his employees. Two people reported that Keane reluctantly offered health care plans to employees when told it was required under the Affordable Care Act; he reportedly told his employees that they would be “whisperers” for demanding it. And there were “complainers”.

Several former employees described Keane as “inappropriate” and said he often made comments about employees’ physical appearance. Two former employees described him as making misogynistic statements, including allegedly making sexual comments about women and frequently questioning his ability to do his job.

Several former employees questioned the high-security nature of the office, saying it was filled with security cameras and required them to lock their cell phones in boxes. Registered Agents Inc. Slyusarev, a former senior software engineer, says the phone system, which he says he installed, was able to secretly record employees’ phone calls.

Former employees say Keane violated government regulations and took complete control of the company and its operations. Keane does not have a website or social media profiles and does not give interviews about his business.

Former senior employee Evans claims, “He thinks people are out to get him or to get the company.”

Details about its inner workings, including ownership and management structure, have been hidden from employees, who say they were discouraged from discussing it in the office. and the practice of using fake personas Registered Agent Inc. This also extends to its employees.

When she began interviewing in the U.S., she remembers first speaking on LinkedIn with Dianne Bruner, who identified herself as a recruiter at the company. When he arrived at the office for the interview, he asked to speak to Brunner and was told that no one by that name worked at the company.

Employees say Jack Stephenson, who is registered on LinkedIn at Registered Agents Inc. Another fake personality, claiming to be the Vice President and Director of Customer Relations. Stephenson frequently comments on the registered agent industry on LinkedIn. He lists a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Utah State University on his profile, but a university official told WIRED that they could not find any records related to Jack Stephenson.
